October 26, 2001 Dear Ray, I can't tell you how much the American Brass Quintet residency has turned the kids on! Ii is still the hot topic of much conversation and the students are truly inspired by it. It was particularly gratifying to Kristen, Brad and Ito have so much of what we are saying to our students on a daily basis reiterated in the ABQ residency events. The ABQ residency has forever fortified the legitimacy of our brass program. I just can't wait for the next time we can have you back to play in Legacy Hall! I express to you, and ask that you express to Kevin, David, Michael and John, my sincere thanks for providing a great experience for our students. I appreciate your willingness to share your routine information as well. One of the things that I have personally struggled with in the past couple of years is finding that balance of routine in practice. It is nice to he able to examine what you do and gain perspective from it. I am now in the process of digesting the information you sent and plan on presenting it to a studio class in the next couple of weeks. It was nice to hear from you. Let me know if you need anything more than the contents of this letter for your residency promotion. I am completely sold on the concept and can attest to the positive effects for our program. Take care and keep in touch, Richard J. Rulli |
